Unit 5 Presentation - Regina Davenport

Unit 5 Blog Response – Regina Davenport

The presentation of Unit 5 was very helpful because it is supporting me in thinking about how I might think about what teacher standards I want to show in my lessons, along with the student standards.  It seems when you learn to proceed in this way, you are clearer about the goals and outcomes that you are setting for your students.  I was introduced to the Instructional Planning Matrix in an earlier presentation, and know that I want to have that help guide me in planning technology to be used with instruction.  All these tools, like the NETS.T standards, the instructional planning models, such as Assure help you to be a more efficient, as well as goal and task oriented teacher.  I am beginning to look at how I approach planning differently, not to say that I haven’t been the best teacher that I possibly could in the past; but simply recognizing that I am continuing to grow and embrace new ideas of how thing could be done.
I would want to make sure that my instructional planning would represent all or most of Standard 1, Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity. Teachers use their knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face to face and virtual environments.   To have this spelled out in a place that I can go to, refresh and re-affirm my direction of how I want to look as a teacher is so helpful and inspiring.  It’s like prayer, or an affirmation.  I appreciate the NET standards and will strive to follow them as much as I can.

In regard to teacher NET.T standard 2 Design and Develop Digital Age Learning experiences and assessments, I truly know how important it is to be able to design assessments that are meaningful for the task at hand, and this is something I need to work on.  I do, however, realize the importance of using assessments to help drive instruction and support of students.  What’s nice about the NET.T standards is that it helps you to better align your core curriculum standards, instruction planning (and ASSURE is excellent); and deeply consider what assessments will allow you to see what students might need to maximize their learning. As I was completing Project 3, I attempted to use the Rubistar program, but it didn’t quite work for me this time.  I do plan to work with it and others, as I predict this program will be great because of its interactive capabilities.  Everything takes time, and sometimes you have to work out the kinks to get things to work better for you.
NET.T 3 Model Digital Age Work and Learning is dear to my heart and why I am working so hard to receive my Educational Technology endorsement.  In other to grow in this area, I needed to return to school to truly get the knowledge I need to be able to support my students, my parents, and my colleagues in a way that would allow all of us to grow.  I have always been the type of person to strive for more, so again, I welcome the knowledge and will continue to expand my knowledge and share with others.
